Worker Health & Safety Training

Unions NSW is a SafeWork NSW accredited trainer in both Entry Holder Permit Training and Health and Safety Representative Training.

Health & Safety Representative Training (HSR Training)

Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) are elected by their work group to represent the workers in their work group on health and safety matters.

Once elected a Health and Safety Representative can request training. A trained HSR can issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and direct a cease work when necessary.

Unions NSW provides training on request. We require a minimum of five HSRs to undertake the training. The training consists of a five-day, face to face course, which can be delivered in five consecutive days or split into two lots, e.g. Three days followed by two days over a course of two or three weeks.

2026 HSR Refresher Training Day – Wednesday 25th November 2026

Unions NSW and SafeWork NSW are coming together for another year to deliver refresher training to health and safety representatives (HSRs) working in NSW.

The day has been designed to provide the most up-to-date information on how HSRs can have a real impact in safeguarding their workplace in their critical role as an HSR. You will also have the opportunity to network with fellow HSRs and share experiences.

Officials must hold an entry permit for work health and safety, along with the relevant State or Federal right of entry permit. This will allow union officials to enter workplaces with the relevant notice to conduct safety inspections and discuss safety issues with members and Health & Safety Representatives.

The EPH training course is a one-day face to face training course. Unions NSW offers the training on request and with at least five officials but no more than twenty. The training can be undertaken at Trades Hall or at your own union premises.
