Union men’s perspectives on gender equity: Interim research report

Men have been the face of organised trades and workplaces, and the union movement, since their origins. In these contexts, men have worked in diverse partnerships for positive change, greater fairness and more equity in our society.

At the same time, some men’s interests have been served by deeply entrenched gender and class inequalities and too many men have been the face of violence in families and communities, against women, children, and other men.

While we know so much about men’s violence and about social inequalities, we don’t know much about how men understand gender equity or see our/their contributions to it. We know even less about union-affiliated men’s perspectives.
