Give workers their time back

Working for free should never be the price of keeping your job.

Unpaid overtime has quietly become the new normal for Australian workers.

88% of workers are regularly working beyond their paid hours, with workers doing an average of 7.8 hours of unpaid work every week. That’s more than 11 weeks of free work every year – worth almost $22,000 in lost wages.

Too many employers are taking workers’ time for free. That means less time for workers’ families, friends and communities, and it’s taking a toll on their health and wellbeing.

Every hour worked should be an hour paid. Workers deserve their time back.

We’re calling on the NSW and Australian Governments to:

  • Increase annual leave to 5 weeks
  • Give NSW workers the same number of public holidays as workers in other states

Sign the petition and demand workers get their time back!

The cost of unpaid overtime

When workers give their time, they’re giving up more than a few extra hours at work. They’re losing time with family and friends, time in their communities, and time to rest and recharge.
Our new report looks at the growing culture of unpaid overtime across Australia and the real cost of expecting workers to continually do more for free.
