Where Now for Swedish Labour?

By Tony Huzzard

Swedish unions are among the strongest in the world and have remained so through changes in government in that country.

The recent return of a conservative government means the unions will be confronted with some huge challenges. Huzzard looks at the reasons for the demise of the Social Democratic government and the announcements of the new government that impact directly on unions and the workplace. One of the announcements, not flagged before the elections, is the closure of the National Institute for Working Life, a world leader in research on the work environment, the labour market and work organisation.
